This is a Bird Cage. . . . . . . . .

Good morning everyone. Hope everyone is doing fine.

Apologies if I made you concerned with my last post. It was just a jippy tum caused by very painful trapped wind. I didn't expand (except my tum) on it at the time as I didn't think that you would want all the gorey details and, the main reason, I thought it would give Maureen some real comedy material to work with lol!!!

A busy few days here with eye clinic (I now have ocular hypertension but no glaucoma, thankfully, and eye drops) having to do a last minute request for a baby shower card and gift box, updating my website with new goodies and my birthday.
Had some lovely cards (thank you folks) and fabulous presents and would you believe, not one crafty pressie lol!!!
Mr D took me took me out for the day and I got treated to lunch. I even had a card and pressie from The Girls...........so clever of them and such neat paw writing lol!!!

Now, thank you for your lovely comments about my samples for John, Here is another where I actually used the bird cage as a bird cage!!!

Ingredients
White, pink, black and vintage gold card
First Edition Bird Song paper
JND Birds and Cages dies
JND Chain die
JND Bee Balm Frame (tag die)
JND sentiment
Diamante chain bling (available on my website)
Gold Krylon pen

To give the cage dimension, I cut the die out 10 times in vintage gold card and snipped out the innards and glued all of these together with a top layer of the complete cage. I had coloured the top layer with my Gold Krylon pen to give it a gilded look.

The design was supposed to look like a wall with blown vinyl and patterned paper separated by a border and the bird cage hanging in front of it................not sure if I achieved that lol!!!

Well, that's me for now except to say, thank you Mr Lockwood for my splendid birthday cake..............

It managed to survive being up ended by Lily off the worktop, still in its box thankfully, and is delicious!!!

Have a great week folks.

Ps.......Karen, there is a tutorial for the fuchsias at the top of the blog.

  2. Morning Ang, firstly I must apologise because I didn't know it was your birthday, so happy birthday for the other day, and the cake from John is gorgeous, how wonderful that man is.

Your sample is amazing, saw it on Hochanda and thought how beautiful it was then, lots of cutting out of the bird cage and snipping the middle's out of them, now what did you do with these pieces - I bet John would have kept them for something, he never throws anything away.

Pleased about the news on your eyes, not as bad as you had anticipated, with treatment you will be fine.

Not sure what this weather is doing, raining heavily here in Kent this morning, but still very warm outside.

Must go now as breakfast is ready, my hubby is so good to me.

Stay safe, healthy and happy, hugs, June Smith xxx

  8. Hi Ang, such a clever idea to give the birdcage more dimension. Glad healthwise things are a bit better - just in time to enjoy that beautiful cake, seems a shame that you had to cut it as it is a real work of art with all the flowers on top. Love from Jackie xx

  11. Happy belated birthday Ang. Sorry I missed it. Love the bird cage card. Will have to give that a try with a birdcage die I have. Beautiful cake and glad it survived after Lilly inspecting it. Like what you did with the bird cage and flowers making it into a planter. Ingenious. Just back from the optician had to have the puffer. Don’t like the field test. I kept missing one. Got it in the end. Take carex

  12. Hello Ang,
First of all, I would never mock the afflicted - and believe me there are few people as afflicted as you, but I would have thought that if the problem was - among other things - trapped wind, you would have expanded considerably! ha ha ha ha. I sincerely hope things have settled down and that all the roof tiles are still in place!!
Sorry I didn't know it was your birthday, you never write, you never call, you never send me cheques!!! Glad you had a good day and the cake is scrumptious, please forward my address on to John!
I remember seeing today's card on John's show with all the other beauties, he did give you quite a few mentions, including the baby shower card for Nesta. I particularly liked her nickname "Nesta Vipers" ha ha.
    Oops, was that a secret?
love Maureen (otherwise known as stirrer!)

  18. I hope you realise that I will be singing Only a Bird in a Gilded Cage for the rest of the day now!!! Now I do know that you didn't "marry for gold because youth cannot mate with age" and I know Mr D is not that much older than you ... ha!ha! ha! Now I'm even worrying myself that I know so much about this very old song!! But to get back to your card it's just nice as a bird cage than not a bird cage. The gilded effect looks great. Hope youare feeling better. Christine xx

  19. I am almost too late to wish you a happy belated birthday but it sounds like it was fabulous with a day out with the hubby, presents from the paw crew and a remarkable cake from John.
I was a tad surprised to actually see a bird cage this morning but it is a charming card and I suppose most people would only see a bird cage in the die, not having your imagination.
Stay well and hope you have a sunny day,
