Good morning one and all. I must apologise for being AWOL for a couple of days but you know how real life has a nasty habit of interfering with crafting. Nothing mega, just lots of little busy bits that pulled me away from the craft room. Not good when I've got a list of cards that need to be made for folk.
Mind you, on Friday, Nesta and I went out for lunch to have a catch up and it turned into an almost 5 hour yap fest. Don't think the pub were thrilled with us making two drinks last all that time (we did eat too) but hey, we're cheap dates !!!
Anyhoo, I hope you have all been behaving yourselves as we have two new ladies who have dipped their toes in the pond. A big warm welcome to Oksana and Lesley. Lovely to have you both following and if you want to leave a comment anytime, that would be fab but knowing that you are having a peek is great so thank you.
Thank you too for your comments on my Diwali cards. I was genuinely surprised at how many peeps hadn't heard of it but you live and learn eh. I will post this years' when I've actually got round to making them.
Just a few notes. . . . . .
Ita, hope you are still improving chuck and all the best.
Hazel Chalmers, keep up your smashing holiday reports.
Sue (Snowqueen62) I've seen the carpets are coming so have you finished the decorating?
Sue (Ollliesmam) do you know how the card donation thing is going?
Jackie D, are you still on the high seas?
John, when can we book on Lockwood's Craft Retreat?
and Patricia. . . . . . . stop speeding around the pond again. Slow down and have a rest!
Now, today's card was the result of my first play with mica powders. I wanted to get some gilding wax originally but whenever/wherever I wanted to order from was always out of stock of the ones I wanted so I gave up. Then I saw the fabulous demo Sue Wilson did on C&C with the leaf card with the mica and I thought "I has got to get me some of them!!!" so I did.
I made a 6x6 card using some gold embossed card from C&C as the base. I then cut a slightly smaller piece of chocolate coloured card from my Lidl hoard. I ran this through my GC with the That Special Touch Lattice Mask to emboss it.
I lined up the mask over the embossing and inked through it with Versamark. I then brushed some light gold mica powder over it (I knew that freebie Estee Lauder eyeshadow brush would come in handy lol !!!) I buffed over it with a dry wetwipe, then gave it a waft of cheapy hairspray to seal it.
I was pleased with the effect so I didn't want to cover too much of it. I just cut the second smallest SB Captivating Squares out of the gold card, stamped and heat embossed the sentiment with Bronze embossing powder, then foam padded to the choccy layer.
Choccy layer then foam padded to the gold base card and that was that.
Here is another piccy, taken without flash. . . . . . . . .
and here is a piccy of my new mica set. . . . . . . . .
Its a set of 12 from ebay for £6.50 (free postage). They are 6ml pots and silly me didn't notice that the same seller had 12x10ml pots for £6.95. These are the metallics set, ordered Thursday evening, arrived Saturday lunchtime.
There are some other colours I may get as well but I'm going to enjoy messing with these so sorry in advance for the plethora of mica festooned creations that are about to descend on the pond.
Hope you have a great day and that all is well with you and yours.

Hi Ang, I've been absent from the pond for a wee while but I see you've been busy. Gorgeous card, mica background is fab so I'm looking forward to seeing what you come up with using your new goodies. Hope you're having a good weekend

Morning Ang,
ReplyDeleteWow, this is lovely, I agree why cover it up so you cannot see the lovely pattern. I have this mask and its one of my favorites too. I have a limited amount of mica powders, namely 6 that I bought possibly couple of years ago now lol!
Love & hugs

Good morning Ang,
ReplyDeleteLove, love, love it, absolutely brilliant. Shows and blogging fairly brings out some wonderful talent.
After the show I rummaged to find a few jars I had. I used mine on an oval shape I had loved the effect but have not done anything with it yet.
Lots to do in the next few days, if I manage to get some free time I might have another play. See this "life in general" fairly gets in the way of "playing with paper"
Glad you had a "quick" .......... Lunch with Nesta next time you can spend more time over one!!!!! Nothing greater than a good friend to chat with.
Have a fantastic day whatever be you plan to do.
Hugs
Patricia xx

A lovely card. I have some mica powders somewhere, must dig them out!x
ReplyDeleteThanks for the welcome! Wow, I am going to have to get hold of some of those powders. I watched Sue's demos too - she's not on C&C often enough - when I see a product I like, I often look elsewhere to buy it, as C&C charge £7.99 to send things to Ireland (sigh). OK when it's something big, like my Sil. Cameo, but annoying when it's something small and light.
ReplyDeleteThis is lovely Ang. I dont have any Mica but I,m sure John does, may have to have a lend !!!!
ReplyDeleteAnother luvly card and I luv the mica effects - I must get mine out and have another go - not used them for ages xx GailT xx
ReplyDeleteHi Ang,
ReplyDeleteLove the mica effect, I got some of theses bargain mica's from ebay not used them very much will have to have a play now after seeing your lovely card.

Hi Ang, been having trouble commenting on your blog again, been trying all morning, hopefully this way will work!
ReplyDeleteNo we haven't finished decorating yet. Hubby taking ages!!! He won't let me help as he doesn't think I can do it as we'll as him! HA I say!! I've told him what's not done by Wednesday (my day off) I WILL do like it or not as I really do need to get on with my cards. I haven't started my Christmas cards yet. Been nearly three weeks since I have done any crafting and I'm in withdrawal. I want to get the rooms straight again so I can get my crafting stuff out.
Anyway enough ranting (so sorry to use your page )
Your card is lovely a good one for the men who don't like fussy cards. I love the effect the mica has given must dig mine out again when I can.
Hugs Sue x
Yeees it worked!

Hello Ang, what a stunning card, I think the colours are beautiful and what a wonderful embossing, great for a first attempt. Not tried mica yet, have a great day, hugs Kate x
ReplyDeleteHi Ang, yes I'm back from the big pond. Had a lovely time, lots of sunshine, good food and wine and probably one of the friendliest group of folk I've ever met on board. Luckily I brought back the sunshine for the majority of the day and all the washing is done and dried and though I have been to the shops today it will have to be a bing meal tonight seeing that I have to get it myself [i.e. put it in the microwave and wait for the bing!!] I have over 300 emails waiting for me so it will take a while to catch up on all your creations and news but in the meantime I love what you have done here. Best wishes Jackie
ReplyDeleteAnother fab card Ang, not been far today to foggy to see anything.
