Holly Apertures . . . . . .

Good morning everyone. I hope that you all had a wonderful Christmas and are full of festive joy and turkey.
Thankfully, I rallied on Christmas Day so I managed to cope with cooking the dinner - admittedly, the 2 gammons just went straight into the slowcooker first thing (we're not greedy, we have a 6.5 litre slowcooker that I always fill lol!!!), the turkey breast joint looked after itself once in the oven and Mr D peeled the spuds.

Mr D had already given me some money before Christmas for crafty stash but I still got a gift bag full of my favourite cheesy snacks, some chocolate (that he knows he will eat most of lol!!!) and Damon Hill's autobiography, yay!!!
He also took me to The Range on Boxing Day where I spent some of the money and upon my fawning over yet another First Edition pad, he asked the immortal non crafter question of "why do you need another one of those, when you don't use the ones you have?"
Ah Grasshopper, one day you will learn . . . . . . .

Anyhoo, before I carry on, I would like to welcome some new followers to The Pond. Sometimes Blogger does muddle up the list, so apologies if I miss anyone, but as far as I can see, we have been joined by Pauline, Veronica, Cheryl, Candy and Sharon. Thank you so much ladies for pressing the follow button. Its very kind of you and I hope you enjoy your visits.
Also, before I forget, Carole, CE does indeed stand for Creative Expressions but I'm too lazy to type it out lol!!!

Now, onto today's card. I had cut some Holly Flourishes out of gold mirror card for my card here and I noticed, having done it rather neatly, there was a lovely pattern to the negative and so this card was born. Ideally, the cuts would have been done facing alternate directions symmetrically but I wasn't going to waste it lol!!!

Ivory, burgundy and gold mirror card
Cherry Lynn Holly Flourish die
Sue Wilson Holly Octagonal Frame (hexgaons only)
Dovecraft sentiment
Card-io holly stamp
Memento Dew Drop Rhubarb Stalk ink
Gold mica powder

Simple, I know but sometimes when you're under the cosh with a never decreasing list of cards to make, simple is super lol!!! This also comes under normal letter postage, hurrah!!!

I am going to make a concerted effort to make Christmas Cards throughout the year in 2017 (we'll see how long it takes for me to forget that lol!!!)

Well, that's me for today. Should hopefully be seeing Nesta before she jets off to sunny Spain for a week and also, doing a turkey, gammon and leek pie to use up the last of the left overs (after the usual turkey fricasse and turkey trifle).

And what sad news we have had this week too with the passing of Rick Parfitt, George Michael and Carrie Fisher. I have been fortunate to see The Quo in concert a couple of times, once as a brilliant warm up for Queen and love em or hate em, they would always get your foot tapping.

Hope that you all have a good day and thank you for visiting.

Ang x

  1. Morning Ang
Yes I'm up early I was back to work pleased to hear you were ok over Christmas.
Ours was as good as it could have been the funeral is on the 9th .
I agree it is,so sad that such talented people have passed away too soon.
A wonderful card from your scraps very effective xxx

  2. Love this card idea Ang, very effective. So glad you were well over Christmas. We had a very quiet Christmas Day cos my husband has suddenly become almost completely deaf! Has its advantages but horrible for him. Got to get back to crafting today as I need birthday cards for 1st, 2nd and 3rd. I'm going to try to make cards all year round too but watch this space! Wishing you a happy and healthy new year!

  3. I love this card - such a simple idea. Really ought to replicate before I forget but at the moment I can't find anything in my craft room as its all away safely as my little granddaughter was sleeping in there over Christmas. I needed to make a baby card quickly yesterday nd it was so difficult not remembering where I'd put stuff!
Glad you were okay over Christmas. Hope 2017 will bring better health for you..

  4. Amazing Ang, so gorgeous and classy. xxxx

  5. Great card, Ang. Glad to hear you were able to enjoy Christmas.

    Anne (Northampton)

  6. Hi Ang , A real beauty of a card ,i love it !.
Aww Mr D you will never understand because you are not a crafter, we little Ducks just have to have , what we have to have.
So sad about our talented folks ,this whole year has seen too many passing , before i went to bed last night i heard that Debbie Reynolds { Carrie Fishers Mum } was rushed into Hospital , such sad news.
    Take care Ang .

  7. Morning Ang,
Pleased you were feeling better for Christmas. Love the waste card, so pretty.

  8. Morning Ang, your comments made me lol a lot! My hubby has now stopped asking why I need yet another crafting item as I think he has lost the will and knows he lost the battle a long time ago, or it could be his pace maker settings. Look in on a regular basis to your blog, having met John now several times at shows/demo's and wondered who you were. Love the cards you make. Hope 2017 is a happy, healthier year for you. kindest regards WakeyL

  9. Hi Ang, lovely card. So glad that you had a good day on Christmas Day and hopefully you did not do to much and tire yourself out.
My husband just walks away now when I hit the Craft Aisle in the shop or I wait and visit when he is not there - they just don't understand how essential certain craft items are

  10. Beautiful card and great use of the "left overs". So pleased you had a good Christmas. I enjoy hearing from you sharing your life and activities.

I have no idea what gammons are -- they must be good or you would not cook them! And pray tell - what is a First Edition pad? Oh - and before I forget - you turkey, gammon and leek pie sounds way too good!
Stay well sugar - we have a whole new year coming up!
    Sandy xx

Oh I'm so pleased that you were fine over the holidays, and able to eat (sing to the tune of 12 Days of Christmas) one turkey breast, two gammon joints, Three cheesy snacks, Four chocolate bars and Five turkey, gammon and leek pies lol!!!! I wonder if we should now call you Roly Poly because you certainly won't be erect ha ha. Thanks for that one Darnell!!!
Me, myself? Oh how kind of you to ask. I've been laid up with the dreaded bug that's going around and haven't had a decent meal since Christmas Eve, but you know me - complain? Darn right I am ha ha.
