Peacocks and Pate. . . . . . . .

Good morning everyone. Hope you are well but I know that some of you have sad family situations so I send big hugs.

Thank you for your comments on my tutorial. If I do anything unusual, I will photograph the stages in case anyone is interested in the "how". I have made an unusual shaped box for another day and have snapped it as I went along.

Now, today's card is not my normal style but I was asked for a peacock card and who am I to refuse. Nesta's sister has taken early retirement and as she likes peacocks, Nesta requested a peacock card.
Had I got anything remotely peacocky in my stash? Absolutely not!*** Do I like peacocky things enough to spend £5 - £6 on a stamp? Absolutely not lol!
As fortune would have it, shortly after I was asked, the lovely Jenny Lawrence (Cardsarus Blog) featured a peacock card on her blog using a Hunkydory kit. I tried to track down the kit but to no avail but the wonderful Jenny came to my rescue as she had a spare kit. So thanks from me and thanks from Nesta.

Ingredients
White, purple and teal card
Hunkydory Peacock kit
SB Bitty Blossoms (I now have 3 sets of these lol!!!)
SB Carnation Creations
SB Elegant labels 4
SW Cape Daisies
Tonic flower punch
Hobbycraft stamps (on box lid)
Bling

In honour of Jenny, I even dolled up the inside of the card which I shamefully don't normally do.

I also made a box . . . . . . . . . .

I know its not going to be everyone's cup of tea but a gals gotta do what a gals gotta do. It was presented to its recipient last night and apparently it was well received.

Thank you again to Barbara for the pate recipe. I liked the taste but had a few issues, hence the reference to Mucky Ducky on my last post.

Firstly, when I mentioned it to a friend of mine, they said "Don't you have to prepare the livers?" when I questioned what "prepare" meant exactly, I was told that you have to cut out all the sinewy bits............ ewwwwww!!!
So I looked on line to check this and one website even mentioned "removing the gall bladder". I thought, heavens to Betsy, I want to cook not perform surgery!!!
I decided to forge ahead but handling liver was not a pleasant experience (nor was cutting out the sinewy bits). Into the pan it went with the other ingredients and when cooked, into the food processor went the contents of the pan.
Who forgot to put the lid on the feeder tube? That would be me and I managed to coat my kitchen units and a bit of me in pate sludge lol!!!
It tasted OK though, so I put it into a container in the fridge to firm up. I have no idea whether it was something I did or an overactive fridge but when I came to serve it with some salad for tea, it was as solid as a house brick so I couldn't even spread it.
Mr D took one look and said he wasn't eating something that was likely to chip a tooth so that was that.
Sorry that I haven't done your lovely recipe justice Barbara. I think I'll stick to the iron tablets, along with their weird side effects (anyone whose had them will know exactly what I mean) and the odd bit of black pudding.

On that note, I shall scoot. Azerbaijan GP live today so I shall have custody of the remote control for a few hours. Do we reckon Lewis is going to stuff up again Jackie?

Take care all.

  2. Oh Ang only you could turn the making of Pate into a hilarious farce, hope Mr. D found something else for his tea that night.

Your card is absolutely gorgeous, they are indeed beautiful birds and you have used the topper to good effect with all the glorious embellishments. Beautifully designed inside and a gorgeous box to boot, well done you , Kate x

  3. Ang. Good to see you still have a sense of humour. I do like chicken liver pate but. Buy it ready made to much hard work for such a small amount.
Love your card, it's nice when you can achieve what the customer asks for.

  5. Lovely card Ang but like you I don't do Peacocks either. Thanks for sharing the project with us. Had to laugh at your pate making although being vegetarian I wouldn't even attempt it. Could never stand touching liver anyway.

  6. Hi Ang

Oh my.... the vision of your kitchen, you and the remains of cremated chicken livers lol

Wonderful job with the peacock, box and insert, no wonder the recipient loved it!

  8. Hi Ang
What a great card. I do like peacocks and own a stamp, I think the colours in their feathers are amazing .

  10. Hi Ang, I would not know where to start to make a Peacock card, so I am full of admiration for you and the card you made. Do like Liver but have never made pate and after reading of your experience I think perhaps I will give it a miss.
    Enjoy you GP.

  12. Hello Ang,
I've been having a good laugh too! Not at the card - your pate making! Never touch the stuff since it made me very ill! Your card is a triumph! I would not have known where to start! Love the box too. Gorgeous! Thank you.

  15. Hello Mucky Ducky!
You are a braver woman than me preparing and eating liver. Now the card is beautiful. I'm not keen on bird cards, but for anyone who likes them, the colours on this and the box are gorgeous. My mother was superstitious and wouldn't have anything other than a live bird in the house. I think it was something to do with Canaries being taken down the Pits in case of gas. Not that any of mam's relations were miners, they were all butchers!!! Oh, oh, we are back to liver ha ha.
Hope you've had an "alright" weekend health wise.
    love Maureen x

  17. Hi Mrs Duck,You can buy frozen livers from most supermarkets, very cheap and already cleaned etc.,.I am guessing that due to the blender episode, the consistency left had lost some of the moisture from the blend and it does need all of it to make it creamy. If you were closer I would happily make you one.Anyway I hope you keep well and the iron tablets help. Love Barbara D xxx

  18. Lovely card, an insert/inside and a box too It's all gorgeous You did make me laugh with the antics you had making the pate I could not have handled preparing the liver I used to buy turkey at Christmas and hated removing the bag of giblets which shamefully I dumped in the bin asap! Don't buy turkey now unless the giblets have already been removed
I don't know the result but hope you enjoyed the GP

  19. Hi Ang. Shame I didn't know as I have a peacock mask (Imagination crafts) which looks great just using glitter paste. Anyway you've come up with a spectacularly proud looking bird and background.

  21. This is such a stunning card, glad to see your flowers snuck onto it. The pate incident made me laugh. Chicken liver pate seems to be a regular dish on Come Dine with Me with varying levels of success in making it, so you're not alone! Take care x
