Bloomin Potty . . . . . . . .

Good morning my little duckadees. Hope that you all managed to escape any storm damage. We were very lucky and just seemed to get driving rain but no real gale to speak of.

Thank you for your comments on my last post. My somersault onto the sofa and woo woos filling my ears frightened the living daylights out of me at the time but I do see the funny side now. The biscuits were lovely but I can't honestly profess to noticing any difference between English M&S biscuits and Scottish ones. I had hinted at tablet but I don't think he knew what I was on about. . . . . . . . Well, I think its called tablet, a sort of fudge meets Kendal mint cake type sweet?

Now, today is a plant pot card I was asked to make by the manageress of the charity shop I volunteer in. It is for her auntie's birthday next month. I think its safe to show it as I don't know her auntie and don't think she is a blogger.

I made it as before but just changed a couple of things like the stamping and butterflies and also, I added some SB Carnation Creation flowers this time too. The lovely little pearls in the centres were sent to me by the fabulous John of John Next Door fame.

They can be time consuming cards to make (mainly waiting for the terracotta paint to dry) but I enjoy making them. Here is a link to the first one I ever made. I forgot to photograph the inside of this one but its not radically different to the others.

Hearts and Lace . . . . . . .

Good morning to you all. Hope that today is treating you well. Its an F1 GP weekend so I'm a happy girlie.

Mr Duck arrived back safe and sound after his overnight foray north of the border. After "Mapgate" he arrived home clutching M&S biscuits as he thought the Scottish ones might taste different. I was too stunned to question the logic and a least it wasn't a map of Dunfermline as a gift. 

Wilma, if I'd known you were local, I would have sent him to you for lodging hahaha!!! And Patricia, I know what you mean about the bed to yourself but I like that when Mr D has just got up and I can spread out into the warm patch lol!!!

As I didn't get to bed until gone 2am that night, I thought I wouldn't bother setting the alarm. Mr D, obviously oblivious to this, decided to ring me at 7.30am to tell me about strange delicacies on his breakfast. The phone was downstairs but I heard it, shot out of bed, half asleep running around upstairs looking for it. Then realised it was downstairs so hurtled down the stairs, threw myself through the living room door, tripped over my own feet, landed on the sofa, legs in the air, promptly setting the burglar alarm off as I'd forgotten to switch it off. The only thing missing was the Benny Hill chase music. It certainly woke me up and half the neighbourhood I should imagine lol!!!

Thank you all for your kind comments on my last card. I'm getting curious now as to who did make it on the CEDT as its a few weeks since I got the "no" email and no one has been revealed on their blog as yet. Lesley, glad you got those micas and hope you enjoy playing.

Now, today's card is the last of my submissions for the CEDT call. I posted a similar card a few posts ago (see here), which was a prototype for this one.

The background creation was done exactly the same way but this time I used a CE heart stamp, another CE sentiment and CE Crocheted Ribbon (thought I'd better show willing if applying for their team lol!!!)The heart is attached with Nymo beading thread so it dangles in the aperture.

I threaded some silky blue cord through the ribbon, tied it in a bow and stuck a lime green heart shaped gem on the knot.

Right, that's it for today chaps and chapesses. I shall be parked in front of the box this morning for F1 Qually and also tomorrow morning for the actual race. Hope you all enjoy doing whatever floats your boat this weekend and that the weather is kind to you. Annie, hope that the fires are under control now too.

Good morning everybody. Hope that you are all well and that Hazel is on final approach to Glasgow.

I'm typing this at stupid o'clock so please forgive any spelling mistakes. Mr Duck is probably snoring away in his hotel in Dunfermline for work so I'm not eager to climb into a cold, empty bed just yet.

Glad you are thinking of dusting down your mica pots. I'm loving the stuff. Wendy, get yourself round to John's and pinch some.

Now, back to today's card. There is only the one pic today. This is another of the cards I submitted as part of my application for the CE DT.

Its mats and layers of black and white PMD card and Limetree Crafts Gold Shimmer card. This is similar to the soft gold card sold elsewhere but about half the price. Its 300gsm and double sided and lovely. Unfortunately, Limetree don't do mail order as yet so I stock up at craft shows. They also do lots of other fab cardstock at £1 for a pack of 10 A4 sheets. . . . . .bargain!

The frame is the outer die of SB Majestic Labels 25 and the SB Bracket Borders. The middle dies are the two smallest SB Decorative Labels Eight. On the larger one, I went over the edges with my Versamark Pen, dunked it into gold embossing powder and heat set.

The background was done by stamping a Kanban Rose stamp onto some gold shimmer card and heat embossing in gold. This was then run through the GC with a Crafts Too heart embossing folder.

All assembled as you see. Sadly, not a winner for CE but I like it and hope you may like it too.

Well, that's me off to try another mug of camomile before attempting bed. I normally only see one 1 o'clock in a day and its pm rather than am hahaha!!! You can just imagine what state I'm going to be in the morning . . . . . . . well, later this morning I should say.

Messing with Mica . . . . . . . . .

Good morning one and all. I must apologise for being AWOL for a couple of days but you know how real life has a nasty habit of interfering with crafting. Nothing mega, just lots of little busy bits that pulled me away from the craft room. Not good when I've got a list of cards that need to be made for folk.

Mind you, on Friday, Nesta and I went out for lunch to have a catch up and it turned into an almost 5 hour yap fest. Don't think the pub were thrilled with us making two drinks last all that time (we did eat too) but hey, we're cheap dates !!!

Anyhoo, I hope you have all been behaving yourselves as we have two new ladies who have dipped their toes in the pond. A big warm welcome to Oksana and Lesley. Lovely to have you both following and if you want to leave a comment anytime, that would be fab but knowing that you are having a peek is great so thank you.

Thank you too for your comments on my Diwali cards. I was genuinely surprised at how many peeps hadn't heard of it but you live and learn eh. I will post this years' when I've actually got round to making them.

Now, today's card was the result of my first play with mica powders. I wanted to get some gilding wax originally but whenever/wherever I wanted to order from was always out of stock of the ones I wanted so I gave up. Then I saw the fabulous demo Sue Wilson did on C&C with the leaf card with the mica and I thought "I has got to get me some of them!!!" so I did.

I made a 6x6 card using some gold embossed card from C&C as the base. I then cut a slightly smaller piece of chocolate coloured card from my Lidl hoard. I ran this through my GC with the That Special Touch Lattice Mask to emboss it. 

I lined up the mask over the embossing and inked through it with Versamark. I then brushed some light gold mica powder over it (I knew that freebie Estee Lauder eyeshadow brush would come in handy lol !!!) I buffed over it with a dry wetwipe, then gave it a waft of cheapy hairspray to seal it.

I was pleased with the effect so I didn't want to cover too much of it. I just cut the second smallest SB Captivating Squares out of the gold card, stamped and heat embossed the sentiment with Bronze embossing powder, then foam padded to the choccy layer.

Choccy layer then foam padded to the gold base card and that was that.

Its a set of 12 from ebay for £6.50 (free postage). They are 6ml pots and silly me didn't notice that the same seller had 12x10ml pots for £6.95. These are the metallics set, ordered Thursday evening, arrived Saturday lunchtime.

There are some other colours I may get as well but I'm going to enjoy messing with these so sorry in advance for the plethora of mica festooned creations that are about to descend on the pond.

Happy Diwali . . . . . . . . . .nearly

Good morning Duckadees. Wednesday greetings and felicitations to you all.

Thank you for your lovely comments on my improvised snowflake mask. I also need to give an honourable mention to Mr Duck. After "Mapgate" he redeemed himself (slightly) by paying for the postage on the cards sent for Millie-Rose. He thinks that's him off the hook now. . . . . .silly boy!

Wasn't John and Wendy's first video great?(see here). Don't know that I would have the doodahs to do that, so many claps and whoops to them.

Now, today's theme is Diwali as it's not far off now (3rd November this year I believe). These cards are actually ones I made for Nesta and her family last year, not long after I discovered the crafting drug known as Spellbinders. I am in the throws of designing this years cards so thought I would show you what I did last year. The new ones will appear in due course.

The card above was Nesta's.

This is the SB Fancy Lattice (reminded me of Jali fretwork) cut out of gold mirror card and mounted on foam pads to a teal card layer. This was then matted onto an A5 black card base.

I then cut one of the SB Decorative Labels Eight from black card. On this, I hand drew the outline of Lord Ganesh, incorporating the Om symbol which is of religious significance to Hindu's. I went over this with a glue pen, then gilded with Indigo Blu Royal Peacock flakes.

I then added the hand written (and doesn't it show lol!!!) sentiment, trying to make it look like Indian writing. Popped this onto the card and voila!!!

Nesta loved it thankfully. Will see what I can come up with this year.

The cards below, I made for Nesta's Dad and sister/brother in law. They both display Om symbols that I have gilded, on layered SB dies (Elegant Labels One and Decorative Labels Twenty Seven if memory serves me correctly)

We usually go over to Leicester's Belgrave Road on Diwali each year (John, the invites there for you and/or OH if you're in the area) weather permitting. We get there in the afternoon, do a bit of shopping, have a fabulous meal, more shopping then watch the fireworks in the park and then head home. Hopefully, the weather this year will be as mild as last year come the day.

Something different, I know, but that's the beauty of being able to celebrate different festivals with friends of different cultures. It's also a great excuse to enjoy fab food and fireworks but don't tell Nesta lol !!!

Snowflakes. . . . . . . .

Good morning folks. Well, in this neck of the woods, its been weather fit for bloomin ducks. The heating has gone on for a couple of hours as it felt damp rather than cold with all this rain.

Lovely to see on Ita's blog, that she seems to be better and I'm loving reading about Hazel's travels. Enjoyed Sues' Tool Shed show yesterday. There were some beautiful samples and I'm in love with the mica.

Now, today's offering was born out of some cards I made to send to the Millie-Rose Appeal highlighted by Sue (Olliesmam) here. I had some cards that I was going to take to a craft fair but decided I would send some of them to the appeal and that I would make some Christmas cards to pop in with them. 

I know this one looks a bit boring but I'm showing it as I made the mask/stencil that embossed it. 

I was in one of my "what if I do that" moods after cutting some snowflakes using some Mariannes snowflake dies. The apertures looked so nice that I thought that they may look ok embossed so I took a piece of card, cut it to 6x6 and cut several snowflakes from it like so. . . . .

I then ran this through the GC like you would a mask, with a 5x7 card blank, embossing the front. I am pleased to say that it worked. I know I haven't reinvented the wheel but I was pleased that my little experiment looked okey cokey and cheaper than buying a snowflake mask/embossing folder.

I finished off by adding some of the snowflakes I had cut from holographic silver card, stamping some snowflakes in silver (using a metallic silver Promarker as my ink pad had dried up) and a sentiment.

I have since made another one, using 300gsm card which gives a deeper, better emboss and shall be experimenting with some more.

I have sent about 20 cards to the appeal and here are the other Christmas cards I made. . . . . .

Quick but hopefully enough detail for folk to buy them for the appeal (using the SB Holiday Magic embossing folder this time). The rest I sent were a mixture of birthday, thank you and general ones.

When this post goes live, I shall, hopefully, be having a lie in (well, till 7.30) after my two early mornings for the GP. Not so early for India in two weeks time thankfully.

We Wish You a Merry Christmas. . . . . . . .

Good morning chaps and chapesses. . . . . . .Brrrrr, brrrrr and brrrrr again!!! So far resisting the central heating but my Shaun the Sheep blanket is poised and ready.

Thank you so much everyone for your kind comments and congratulations on my challenge win. I really enjoy seeing what everyone has to say on here and on your blogs (those who have them). It warms the heart, if not the feet lol !!!

Glad Hazel has finally made it over the big pond. I bet the scenery and wildlife in Canada is stunning but here's hoping Hazel doesn't get a bear behind. . . . . . . ahem!!!

Now, back to a festive card today. Before I start, I must say that the swirly background card is a sheet of Hunkydory Adorable Scorable that I thought looked nice to photograph the card on.

The card base is an A4 sheet of white hammered card (PMD) I matted this with a smaller sheet of gold mirror card (gutted in the middle. . . . . .yes, I do squeak when I walk lol !!!) I then took another piece of white card to and stamped a Dovecraft Christmas Borders stamp in Versamark along the bottom and heat embossed with gold EP. I then stuck this onto the gold mirror layer.

Next I used the GC to cut the middle SB Elegant Labels Four and 2nd smallest Decorative Labels Eight dies out of red card and the smallest Decorative Labels 28 out of gold mirror card. I then cut the same Decorative Labels 28 die from the middle of the Elegant Labels Four piece to make a frame.

I had already cut a gold mirror Elegant Labels Four previously and kept the "bits". I stuck the "bits" of gold card into the apertures (I know I could have just stuck a whole piece of gold card behind but I wanted the dimension from the "bits"

I foam padded this to the base card and then stuck the gold label 28 flat in the centre. 

The sentiment is Indigo Blu stamped onto the Labels Eight piece with Versamark, and heat embossed with Ranger Sticky Embossing Powder. I then rubbed Indigo Blu Chariot of Fire Gilding Flakes onto this (if you're reading this Jacquie, its the stuff I mentioned on your post yesterday) and popped it onto the card. . . . . then, Bob's your Auntie's husband!!!

By the time this post rears its head, I will have been up one hour and 15 minutes (4.45am roll out of my pit) watching the Japanese GP qualifying session. . . . . . .more of the same for the actual race tomorrow too . . . . . .fuelled with caffeine.

Mr Duck was actually at McLaren's HQ yesterday to do with work and bought me back a "gift". . . . . .a map of the site !!! Signed photo of Jenson Baby? No. . . . . Photo of Ayrton Senna's car? No. . . . . . a bloomin map !!! That's why I do the Christmas shopping. The man's perception of a "gift" is not the same as mine.

Good morning folks, just a couple of quickies I wanted to pass on (I didn't want a picture less post so I hope you don't mind looking at one of my beautiful clematis called "Vino")

Also, someone asked me if I could post the recipe for the Nigella Christmas cake I make and freeze. Fear of a lawsuit from the good lady (especially as she currently has legal teams on speed dial) has prevented me from doing so but if you click here, you will be taken to the Guardians publication of the exact recipe from her Christmas book. It is an excellent cake and freezes wonderfully well which is why I make two every other year and freeze one of them.

Lastly, purely on a selfish, indulgent note, I won a challenge Yeahhhhhhhhhhhh !!!!!!!!!!
I won the HOC challenge with my Autumn Bouquet card (here) so I now display my winners button bursting with pride. I would like to thank my husband, parents and Spellbinders lol !!!

Butterfly Magic Box. . . . . . . . . .

Good morning my Duckadees. Hope you are all supahdoopah.

I must apologise to Annie for not giving her a more formal welcome to the pond. . . . . .so welcome to you from Down Under and for those of you who don't know Annie, you can check out her fab blog here .

Thank you for your kind comments on my previous post, especially your commiserations. I shall be showing the other cards I submitted to CE in future posts. One of them was my birthday card for Nesta Vipers (see here) as they didn't need to be brand new projects.

Now today's creation is an homage to the wonderfully talented (and all round good egg) John (hope he has recovered from Monday's birthday celebrations).

He made a fabulous box with a baby's crib in it (see here) and I did the usual "Hmmmm, I wonder if it would work if I did this. . . . . . . . .?" So I gave a box a bash using a different die set.

I cut four of the SB Butterfly Magic die out of purple PMD card, leaving a generous border around each piece (This took one sheet of A3) I had originally intended to cut two out of a single sheet of A4 (so that there were two pieces to join rather than four) but this die needs a second pass through the GC after turning it which you obviously can't do with an A4 sheet. Now, if you know anyone with a Big Shot Pro, who lives in the same country, you can probably manage it.

So, that's why I had to cut it on four separate pieces of card.

I Hougied the sides, bottoms and tops of all pieces and then stuck them side by side with red liner tape. I then cut four pieces of acetate (I knew I would use it some day lol!!!) to fit over each aperture and stuck it to the inside side with red liner tape. I then joined the two open ends to make the box. I cut two pieces of card for the base. I stuck one piece to the outside and one on the inside.

The lid was made in the usual way and I added several layers of SB Captivating Squares to the lid, on foam pads.

No practice run, this is it, but I decided not to add anything else, by way of decoration or introduce any other colour as I thought it was ok as it is and I didn't want to cover the sides.

A couple of other snaps as close ups and also a pic I took as I had put it down in the sun and I loved the shadow it created.

I hope that I have done John's concept justice and thank him for making me think outside the box, literally hahaha !!!

I am happy to do a step by step, if my garbled details above are as useful as a chocolate teapot.

Meanwhile, happy holidays to the Turkish Delights from the Scottish Posse, who are off to Canada and Ireland respectively and to Jackie D, who is floating somewhere in the Atlantic (not literally, hopefully) on her cruise.

Shades of Autumn Bouquet . . . . . . . . .

Good morning folks. Hope you're all well and if you're not feeling too great, hope you feel better soon (Thinking of you Ita xxx).

Thank you for all of your baking and pickling tales. I must add, I don't have a particularly sweet tooth (cheese flavoured snacks are my downfall) so any baking in the sweet line is for Mr Duck or friends benefit as I can take it or leave it. I do partake but one piece will generally do.

Now, I would normally have scheduled this but time ran away from me yesterday and I decided to enter this in the HOC Photo Inspiration, Any Style Goes Challenge (click link to check it out).

I made this a while ago but hadn't posted it before as I had applied to CE for their DT and this was one of my submissions (The Autumnal theme one). I have now heard from CE and, unsurprisingly, its a "no". A bit disappointed but didn't really think I had a Duck in orange sauce chance of getting in so it was probably a bit ambitious for my first DT application.

I had originally made a similar card for one of Mr Duck's colleagues who wanted an anniversary card in Autumn shades and I liked it so did a slightly different version to fit the CE brief.

The HOC inspiration photo is . . . . . . . . . . . . .

so I thought of my card as soon as I saw it.

Its an A5 card base made from PMD cream linen card. I inked this with a variety of distress inks (in yellow, orange and browns), darker at the edges and graduating to lighter in the middle.

I then stamped a leaf stamp (one of my car boot bargain box finds) in the same colour inks, around the edge to create a leafy frame.

I then cut the frame from the SB Elegant Labels Four out of more cream card and inked the edges with Bundled Sage distress ink, trying to get a bit of colour graduation on that too.

Flowers are SB Bitty Blossoms and Britannia Medium Rose, inked and blinged and SB Foliage behind them.

The heart is a Sissix one stamped with a CE sentiment. I then clear embossed the whole heart to give it a glazed look.

A cream organza bow completes the ensemble.

Sorry if the post is a bit rushed but I'm trying to squeeze everything (housework, washing etc) in before Sue W at 12pm and then my beloved F1 at 2pm (only highlights sadly as I refuse to have Sky so I'm trying to avoid anything that may give the result away)

Part Deux .. . . . . . Return of the CAS Duck

Good morning everyone. As always, I hope you and yours are well. Here's hoping that high pressure makes an appearance along with the sunshine again.

You will be relieved to know, the onions are now safely in their jars, phew!!!

Trust me, nothing would delight me more than shop bought jars of good old Haywoods but Mr Duck has always loved home pickled and when his Dad passed, I (in a moment of madness /kindness. . . . . delete as appropriate) said I would continue the family tradition. Note to self. . . . engage brain before mouth in future lol !!!

Thanks for your tales of your homemade goodies. I do lots of baking throughout the year as I love cooking and read cook books like novels. My Christmas cake for this year was cooked last year and is in the freezer. I do a Nigella Christmas cake and it freezes fabulously so every other year, I cook two at the same time and freeze one.Its mainly because I'm tighter than a ducks oojit and figured that if I'm having the oven on for the best part of three hours, it may as well be worth it.

I love watching the Great British Bake Off but the problem is Mr Duck keeps saying "Oooh, you haven't made that for a while" or "That would be nice to try" Case in point was the choux buns on this week's episode so guess what I'm doing at the weekend. In fairness, they are easy peasy as I do mine with just fresh cream as a filling and choccy ganashe on the top.

I hear you cry "Why don't you let him do it?". . . . .  because I like my house and don't want it turned into a charred ruin lol !!!

Gee wizz, sorry I've waffled on, back to the important stuff . . . . . . .

Maggie, welcome back. Hope Mr O'Leary didn't stitch you for any excess baggage.

Sue (Snowqueen62) good luck with all that decorating. It made me feel tired just reading about it. I like making lime curd but its a shame it has to be eaten up so quick.

Annie, I'm not sure about Oz having the best fish and chips, unless you have a British chef of course hahaha !!!

Now, today I'm showing the other four cards in the box set. I did them the same way as the one on the previous post only I masked different bits to get different patterns. 

I also did a little stamping on the flaps of the envelopes just to snazz things up a bit.

Boxed card set . . . . . . . . . . al a'Duck

Good morning folks. Hope you're all in fine fettle. My hands and back are a bit achey as after my day at the charity shop yesterday, I set about peeling a few kilos of baby onions for pickling. I had already done the first brining, then scalded them so then came the horrible bit. They are now in their big bowls for their second brining thank goodness, but if I never see a baby onion again, it will be too bloomin soon. 
At one point, I was in pigtails,  wearing sunglasses and sucking a metal teaspoon to stop the onion tears. If the aliens had chosen that point to make contact, I think they would have jumped back in the spaceship and gone to another planet to further their search for intelligent life lol !!! Only the red cabbage and green tomato chutney to do now before I start on the mince pies (I usually make my own mincemeat too but time may run away with me)

Now, today's post is a bit picture heavy so apologies upfront. I was inspired by the lovely John (http://johnnextdoor.blogspot.co.uk)and his box of note cards last week and thought I would create something on those lines but more in a CAS direction. Then the lovely Patricia (http://patricia-summerhousecrafts.blogspot.co.uk) has been showcasing a set she has made too, so I nearly held mine back but think they're sufficiently different to run with it.
Sorry if I have overlapped. Mine are very plain compared to my crafty chums so I hope they look very different.
Today, I'm showing the box and one of the cards. I will show the rest of the cards next time. 
The card is a 5x7 white card blank from Hobbycraft. I used masking tape to create the area I wanted to have the pattern and stamped using odd little stamps I had in Victorian Velvet, Aged Mahogany and Spun Sugar distress inks. I stamped the sentiment, cut it out with pinking shears and foam padded it to the card. I then stamped a swirl either side.

I made the box using my Hougie (just a normal box) but before gluing the lid, I ran it through the GC with the SB Fancy Lattice die. I then attached some white organza ribbon to the bottom of the box so it could be tied in a bow on the top.

I then cut some flowers and foliage using SB Jewels Flowers and Flourishes, Carnation Creations and Foliage die sets and inked them with the same inks as per the stamping and Bundled Sage and stuck them to the lid. I then added little pearls, sent to me from my smashing chum John, to the centres of the flowers.

There are another 4 cards that have been stamped in different patterns. I will show these next time.
